The Obstructed Oceanview stateroom features the same fine amenities as our Oceanview stateroom, but the view from the picture window is either fully or partially obstructed. Measuring in at 92,000 gross tons, the mid-sized ships were built large enough to offer more onboard variety than previous Princess ships, while still small enough to get through the Canal locks. While the two ships offer virtually the same amenities, only Coral Princess retains the class's original larger-than-normal square footage-per-passenger ratio. The Premium Oceanview features a picture window for memorable views.
At the time of the fire, Coral Princess was 4 nautical miles (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) north of Elephant Island in Antarctica. The ship had just completed a two-day transit of the Antarctic Peninsula when the fire occurred and was contained by the ship's on-board fire detection system; no passengers or crew were injured. On 2 May 2013, Coral Princess suffered a fire when some flammable material in the engineering spaces accidentally ignited in the middle of the night. It was quickly extinguished without anyone onboard being injured; however, minor amounts of smoke were detected by passengers as far up as Deck 8.
